February 2021

Covid 19 is still keeping us all in lockdown, eagerly awaiting the time when it is safe for restrictions to be eased again.   While closed, Scott, Dillon and Andrew have been beavering away behind the scenes on various developments of our Craft Beer project including launch of our tap and bottle information software which will keep you informed about all the kegs on tap, those waiting to be put on, bottles & cans and much more.   Information will be posted on screens around the taproom and on an app, so you can keep an eye on what's happening in the taproom wherever you are!    We are also about to launch our long awaited online bottle shop offering collection & delivery in the local area and delivery across the UK.

As you probably know, we faced a lot of challenges with the logistics of importing 43 kegs and masses of bottles from eleven very special artisan craft breweries in Northern Portugal.   These reached us just days before Christmas, too late for us to put them on tap.   We'll be offering a good selection of these bottles and cans online very soon.     We're also in the process of finalising our third import of Spanish beers, mostly this time from Catalunya and the Basque area.

We are making plans with our brewing friends in the EU to hold live tutored beer tastings by video link with those who have brewed the beers being tasted.   They will introduce the beers to us and hold question and answer sessions.    When we re-open we will host these in the taproom but until then we hope to run them for you at home using Zoom group video sessions.

Work has been progressing on the beer garden at the rear, although our tradesmen colleagues have recently been diverted onto bringing forward our planned guest accommodation at Riverside Tap for visiting brewers & other guests, to be used temporarily as a 'granny flat' for Andrew's very elderly & frail mum who has recently been discharged after 5 months in hospital but is not for enough to return to her own bungalow.   She'll be staying there for a while until things return to 'normal' and Covid comes under control.  As we approach the point of reopening the taproom Andrew is hoping to take on some nice people to help look after mum and assist with domestic tasks so please give him a shout if you know anybody who might be able to help with this and possibly also join the Taproom team!

Plans are afoot to instal a microbrewery in a nearby building we hope to acquire, which will also become a visitor and event centre in due course.   The microbrewery is an exciting project which will include offering facilities for students and graduates of Heriot Watt's renowned Brewing degree course to develop their brewing skills with mentorship from some of the UK and EU brewers we work with.   We also hope to undertake collaborative brewing projects with friends in our network of partners across Europe.  Exciting times ahead!

January 2021

Due to the current lockdown in Scotland , the Taproom is closed.  However, there is never a dull moment at the Riverside Tap. We are currently working on getting an online shop up and running as quickly as possible, to allow us to continue providing amazing beers to our customers through this lockdown.

We are also working on completing the beer garden so we can hit the ground running as soon as restrictions allow
